Christmas at La Côte Brasserie in the Renaissance Arts Hotel

Last year I forgot to bring my camera. This year I remembered since my family again dined at La Côte Brasserie at the Renaissance Arts Hotel in the Arts District. The lobby and atriums of the hotel are filled with art in addition to the hotel’s gallery space. I snapped some shots of the various works.

St. Bernard Art Guild Christmas Art Show

Today the St. Bernard Art Guild had its first show since Hurricane Katrina. The guild originates from St. Bernard Parish that is east of adjacent Orleans parish. The area was hit hard by the storm. Nunez Community College, located in Chalmette, was kind enough to lend its auditorium for the show. You may notice repairs in progress inside the facility.

Guild shows usually have four categories: Under Glass, Not Under Glass, Photography and 3-D. Members enjoy trying new media. Not only does each category have 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mentions, Special Best of Theme Plaques are also awarded, i.e., Landscape, Maritime, Portrait, Spiritual, St. Bernard, etc.

Receptions for the art shows are an all-day-affairs. Winners are honored, prizes are awarded and attendees are stuffed with good food and drink.

Below are my three entries.

"Sunshine," acrylic on canvas, 16" x 16", bottom

"Moonrise," acrylic on canvas, 16" x 16", bottom

Of the three paintings I entered in the show, this one below earned me an Honorable Mention in the Not Under Glass category. I got to take home a green ribbon – rosette with three ribbons.
