Walking to the Parade Route

It was a gorgeous Mardi Gras Day in Metairie, Louisiana. I joined some friends for the three parades. This is the approach to the parade route.

Waiting for the Parades to Arrive

The day before Mardi Gras, people reserved spots by laying down blue tarps on the median (locally called "the neutral ground").

Argus Parade

Argus parades on Mardi Gras Day in Metairie. In New Orleans there is no advertising on floats. In Metairie there is and it is blatant.

Monday afternoon people put down there tarps to claim spots along the parade route.

You'll notice folks come with ladders and coolers for all day parade viewing. It is early afternoon when the parades arrive in this neighborhood.

This year's Argus parade honored Elvis Presley. The float riders all dressed like "The King."
