Bar & Cafe

Immediately to the left of the front hallway is the Bar & Café. Large windows provide a view of the outside porch and parking lot. Several stained glass pieces hang in front of the windows. A table in the corner has crabs embedded in its corners.

Entry Hall

Entering Restaurante des Familles is like entering someone’s home. Memorabilia and art adorn the walls and fill a display case of the front hallway. The hostess has her desk there as you walk in the front doors.

Front Porch and Patio

To the left of the front walkway is an outdoor patio with a fireplace. On the front porch are tables and chairs and a swing. Etched glass doors mark the main entrance to Restaurant des Familles.

Restaurant des Familles on Bayou des Familles

Seventeen years ago I had lunch with some artists from the West Bank Art Guild at Restaurant des Familles located at 7163 Barataria Boulevard, Crown Point, Louisiana. After we ate, we hung art on a wall in the restaurant. Over the years I’ve joined my fellow artists for lunch and a view of Bayou des Familles. Several times we were invited by the restaurant owner to come sketch when the irises were in bloom in April.

It has been a while since I’ve dined at the restaurant. Since it is April, I decided it would be a pretty time of year to visit once again. Like certain restaurants in this area, Restaurant des Familles has a unique personality – besides great local cuisine. I’ve linked the restaurant’s website for more details.

A Few More Photos

Below is a photo of a children's playground. On the other side of the parking lot is a dog park. It too it's fenced in and rules are posted for it's use. Anyway, there was more to see than I expected. And that concludes my journey around the Bonnabel Boat Launch.

Top of the Hill

The last place I explored was a man-made hill. Since the New Orleans area is rather flat, hills are a big deal. I took photos to provide a view all the way around.

To the End and Back

Soon I reached the area where some people had been fishing. I had to step carefully on the uneven ground. Some of the cement chunks were sculptural in their shapes. Eventually I began my journey back to my car.

Lake Pontchartrain

Eventually I made my way to the other end of this peninsula. I had a full view of Lake Pontchartrain from there. Next I walked out to part that wrapped around the launch area.
