Old Algiers River Fest

Saturday afternoon I went to the Old Algiers River Fest located in the Algiers Courthouse parking lot. It was just a ferryboat’s ride from the French Quarter. The festival featured live music, food, drink and an array of artists, jewelers and photographers. Below is a photo of the food and beverage tents. Also I’ve posted a shot of the artist, jeweler and photographer tents. Keep scrolling to see some overall shots of the festival.

The Stage at River Fest

A busy schedule of musical acts performed on stage at the Old Algiers River Fest. Here are some shots of festival-goers dancing to music. Others simply enjoyed watching. In back of the crowd were tents including artists, photographers and jewelers.

River Fest from the Levee

The Old Algiers River Fest was set up in the courthouse parking lot in Algiers Point. The Courthouse is the building with the two towers – one of them has a clock. Here is a view of the festival from the Mississippi River levee. From the top of the levee the Mississippi River is visible. Across the river is a clear view of the St. Louis Cathedral and the old Dixie Brewery in the French Quarter. Festival attendees enjoyed sitting on the levee as they listened to a full schedule of musicians.

Old Algiers River Fest

On April 5th and 6th the Old Algiers Main Street Corporation put on the fourth annual The Old Algiers RiverFest. It is a celebration of the roots of jazz in Old Algiers and the Mississippi River’s role in the spread of jazz in the early part of the 20th century. Over twenty art and craft vendors offered their works for sale. Also there was an assortment of food and drink vendors on hand. Fortunately it did not rain the Saturday I went to take pictures.

Food and Drink Vendors at River Fest

There were plenty of choices for food and drink at this year's River Fest. You can see a few lines here and there. Two tents were set aside for dining on that good food.

Algiers Brass Band Plays at River Fest

The Algiers Brass Band performed while I was walking around the various tents. When I came full circle I noticed two men, in front of the stage dancing to the music. On my blog video journal I have posted the video I shot of them.
