Darkness Falls on Dirty Linen Night

Darkness fell on Royal Street, but there were plenty of lights from the art galleries and shops. Musicians played in less than ideal light. Eventually I came to the last few galleries on the route. The crowd continued to grow.

Music and Crowds on Royal Street

Crowds of people wandered from gallery to gallery. They stopped here and there to watch musicians and entertainers perform. As it turned dusk, the crowd became larger.

Royal Street's Dirty Linen Night

The 11th Annual Dirty Linen Night which took place on the second Saturday in August. It is a response, by the Royal Street art galleries in the French Quarter, to the Whitney White Linen Night on Julia Street. I started at the Esplanade end of Royal and walked towards Canal Street.

Dirty Linen Night in the Dark

Eventually the sun set on Dirty Linen Night. The crowd continued to grow as I finished up my trek along Royal Street. Here are a few shots of the musicians I encountered along the way.

Royal Street Promenade

I started my journey at the corner of Royal Street and Ursulines Street. From the barricade I walked in the direction of Canal Street. Each block of Royal Street had a least one entertainer – mostly musicians. I zigzagged on Royal as I visited the participating galleries.

Dirty Linen Night on Royal Street

On August 14th the art galleries of Royal Street held their Ninth Annual “Dirty Linen Night.” The event was created in response to Julia Street’s “White Linen Night.” When the it was first held, I had my art in a co-op gallery on Royal Street. Unfortunately the gallery closed in 2004. Here are some photos from this year’s “Dirty Linen Night.”

Got My Fan

Yes, it was hot that night. Fans were available at the galleries for folks to take with them. Here are a few more photos from that night.

Photo Request

A woman asked to take a photo of me taking a photo. So, here’s the photo plus another one.
