After a while the trail disappeared under large puddles of water. I couldn’t go any further. Given that I had to leave the park by 5 p.m., I turned around and headed back to my car. To see additional photos from the Barataria Preserve and Trails, go to my blog pic folio.
Before long the Old Barataria Trail became a large mud puddle. So, I headed back to the beginning of the trail. Walking the opposite direction now I entered the Plantation Trail. There were palmettos to either side.
Soon I was back at the entrance to the Wood Duck Trail. Next I went left to try out the Old Barataria Trail. Right away I noticed it was muddier. I wasn’t sure how far I was going to go. There were spider webs across the path.
Before long I encountered a log across the path. I went over it and noticed the path was wetter and the grass was higher. Eventually the trail became lost in the higher grass with puddles all over. This was as far as I dared go.
On the way back I snapped a few shots. Before long I was back to the beginning of the Ring Levee Trail. Next I walked the Wood Duck Trail. It was less defined and had grass growing over it.
