Lafreniere Splash Park

Upon completion of the mural, we took a group photo of the Jefferson Art Guild artists. I took a panorama photo as well. It was sunny and hot that day.

Mural Painting at the Splash Park

Members of the Jefferson Art Guild helped paint the finishing touches on a tropical themed splash park at Lareniere Park in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. These photos were taken on March 25th, 2012.

One Last Sculpture

Before walking back to my car I spotted this sculpture. It had Tulane Hospitall for Children on it. And it also mentioned some other organizations. Well, anyway, this concludes my Riverfront trip.

Monument to the Immigrant

Next, I followed a path back to the Riverfront walkway. A majestic statue of a muse of hope leaned forward in front of me. “The Monument to the Immigrant” was created by sculptor Franco Alessandrini. The inscription read “dedicated to the courageous men and women who left their homeland seeking freedom, opportunity and a better life in a new country.” It was dedicated on March 19, 1995. And it was commissioned by the Italian American Marching Club.

Ocean Song

Ocean Song is a 16 foot tall kinetic steel sculpture by artist John T. Scott. It stands near a French Quarter entrance to Woldenberg Park. It took several shots from different viewpoints.

Circling the Memorial

Once I reached the sculpture, I made sure to photograph it from each corner. I even took some close up photos along the way. Shadows created by the sun’s angle made some views more difficult.

The New Orleans Holocaust Memorial

The New Orleans Holocaust Memorial was the first piece I visited near the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. A spiral path leads to a sculpture at the center. Looking at it from different sides reveals different designs. They are explained on a plaque nearby. The artist of the sculpture is Yaacov Agam.

Woldenberg Riverfront Park

Woldenberg Riverfront Park faces the Mississsippi River to the right of the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. The park is named after a local philanthropist, the late Malcolm Woldenberg. A plaque welcomes visitors from the French Quarter. A statue is located on the Riverfront walkway.

The Riverfront

After visiting “The Fly,” I drove downtown to “The Riverfront” near the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. Again the water was higher than usual. Many people strolled along the Riverfront taking in the view.
