New Orleans Metropolitan Taxpayer Tea Party

"New Orleans Metropolitan Taxpayer Tea Party" is the name of the rally that was held this evening around the giant American flag at the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and North Causeway Boulevard in Metairie, LA. Many participants brought their homemade signs to the event. Several of them held up their signs for passing vehicles to see. A number of drivers honked their horns in support. Here are the photos I took.

The Crowd at the Tea Party

As I circled around I took some photos near the center of the Tea Party. Various speakers rallied the crowd in cheers and jeers. There was water for folks who were thirsty. It was rather warm this evening.

Korean War Memorial

Many times I have driven past this area on the median (neutral ground to locals). This event was a good as time as any to take some photos of the memorials and sculptures located below the giant American Flag on Veterans Boulevard.

Police Officers and Fire Fighters Memorial

Below the giant American flag on Veterans Boulevard at North Causeway Boulevard is the Police Officers and Fire Fighters Memorial. There are sculptures representing each group to either side of the memorial with its plaques. The Tea Party took place near the memorial.

Statue of Sheriff Harry Lee

This statue of former Sheriff Harry Lee was dedicated last year. He was our sheriff in Jefferson Parish for many years. In early October of 2007 he passed away.

Crowd Shots at the Tea Party

Here are some crowd shots from the Tea Party. I walked around the back of the gathering. Handmade signs covered a range of issues beyond taxes and spending. Many people wore their red, white and blue.

Overhead View of the Tea Party

Here are some crowd shots of the Tea Party across Veterans Boulevard from the parking garage next to Macy's at Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie, LA.
