Meet the Memphis Pandas!

“Meet the Memphis Pandas” said the sign that welcomed me to giant panda habitat. Yaya (the female) was sleeping in her area while LeLe (the male) was happily eating in his area. Anyway, here they are.

Water Garden

Next I strolled through a water garden. Water cascaded on the left as I entered the space. Monkeys played in a habitat at the far end. I took some shots of goldfish in the pond below the walkway.

Sculpture Garden

To the left of the courtyard is a sculpture garden. There are a mixture of relief and free-standing sculptures. The last photo is an overall shot of the space.

China

Well here is the entrance to the China part of the zoo. It is home to the giant pandas and other species of animals. The courtyard is in front of a theater where an introductory movie is shown. A large bell hangs in the center of the yard.

The Memphis zoo is large. Checking the zoo map became necessary once in a while. When leaving the Northwest Passage, I noticed a sign that depicts plans for adding more sections to the zoo and target years for completion. (See Below) At this intersection of paths there was another fast food spot. This one is The Outpost.









Oh, and I must not forget face painting.

Wandering in the Northwest Passage

The pathway winds around the different habitats. A couple of large rocks had messages on them. Finally there is a circular path for exiting this part of the zoo.
