View of the Mississippi River

Here are my final two shots of the Mississippi River from atop the Chisca mound. This was my last excursion while in Memphis. As you might imagine I have a backlog of photos to share from the months I’ve been back in the New Orleans area.

Atop the Mound

The mound top has a recess with a tree. I strolled the ridge surrounding it. Descending the mountain was trickier than
going up.

Plaques

Around the back is a stone with several plaques. One mentions that Desoto viewed the Mississippi from this area in 1541. Another one discusses the Chisca mound and its history.

Chisca Mound

Soon I found myself on the side of the mound closest to Mississippi River. There was a walkway on the far side. I followed it and circled to the back of the mound.

Desoto Park

Across from the National Ornamental Metal Museum is Chisca mound. It sits near the Mississippi River in Desoto Park. I took a walk around and up the mound.

Back to the Front Driveway

Outside the Smithy I continued to find more sculptures. I took one last shot of the the museum from the backyard. Eventually I was back to the front driveway.

The Smithy

Having walked around the yard I figured I needed to visit inside The Smithy. Here are some shots of the machinery inside. A cat was sleeping in the window.

Metal Garden

This part of the yard had sculptures arranged like they were plants growing in garden beds. They were lined in rows on both sides of a walkway. Some were curlier than others.
