My tour group was given time to take in the view of the grounds from the balcony before the guide continued the tour. I shot photos to the left and to the right. Heading to the right, I could see a garden below that included brick pathways.
Photos are not allowed inside. So, I had to wait until the tour-guide took us out on to the balcony for a view of the two columns of oaks. The columns of oaks were planted prior to construction of the house.
Turning left from a lily pond, I approached the main house. A plaque listed the names of slaves that worked at the plantation. A large oak tree was adjacent to the plaque. Tours are given every half hour 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Recently I drove to Oak Alley Plantation that is located in Vacherie, Louisiana. The plantation faces the Great River Road and the Mississippi River levee in St. James Parish. Here are photos at the entrance from the parking lot.
As a follow up to a painting demonstration I did in June 2010, I ran my first official workshop at the Westwego Art Center on March 12, 2011. I helped seven artists as they tried out various experimental acrylic painting techniques. The participants enjoyed seeing what each other did during the workshop. Here are some photos from that day.
