As a follow up to a painting demonstration I did in June 2010, I ran my first official workshop at the Westwego Art Center on March 12, 2011. I helped seven artists as they tried out various experimental acrylic painting techniques. The participants enjoyed seeing what each other did during the workshop. Here are some photos from that day.
Last month artist Phil Sandusky demonstrated portrait painting for the St. Bernard Art Guild. Phil also enjoys painting “en plein air” – outside from life. The husband of an artist member of the guild, volunteered to be the model.
Phil emphasized blocking in the big shapes first and trying to be accurate with them. He didn’t fuss with a lot of detail. Before the hour was up he had rendered a fair likeness of the model.
Past president of the West Bank Art Guild Glen Weber demonstrated acrylic landscape painting at the October general meeting of the West Bank Art Guild. He showed his secret method for keeping acrylics wet on his palette. With the assistance of a member relay team, he quickly painted four landscape “starts.” A start is simply the initial blocking in of paint to get a piece going. He discussed what he emphasized in each painting as he played with different sky color combinations. As usual he kept members giggling with his cheerful and casual presentation. And voilĂ , below are the four “starts.”
