Kem's Restaurant

Kem’s Restaurant is open for breakfast and supper. With the deluge of hurricane evacuees at the hotel, there was a breakfast bar only in the mornings. Normally there are a host of menu items that can be ordered. Anyway, on Saturday morning I noticed the quote on the wall:

“Remember that half the things we worry about never happen, and the other half are going to happen anyway. So, why worry.”

It sort of fit my circumstance – the evacuation and all. There was another quote above the breakfast bar:

“Remember success requires half luck & half brains.”

Hotel Lobby

Here’s the hotel lobby. At the back is flat screen television with some chairs. There are a couple of sculptures including one in a window to a computer work area. No, the plants are not real.

Meeting Room and Entrance Lobby

To the left of the hotel lobby is another lobby for a meeting room. Along the connecting hallway is a desk for the concierge. Across from the desk is a lounge area which includes two chairs.

Hotel Rear

Around the backside of the hotel are lounge chairs. An indoor pool is visible from there. To the right is an outdoor patio with tables and chairs. Inside there is an exercise room across from the pool.

A New Hotel

Labor Day weekend made finding a hotel more difficult with the impending evacuation Gustav. The hotel I found is ten minutes south of Memphis in Southaven. It is in the middle of a commercial area loaded with every possible restaurant and store you could imagine. The hotel opened in April; so it is still very new. The exterior is more or less what you’d expect.

Evacuation

On the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina hitting the New Orleans, I spent the day packing and later evacuating. I left before the official evacuation order. Getting stuck in evacuation gridlock did not appeal to me. Fortunately I had no trouble when I left Friday evening. Here are some night shots of the hotel where I’m staying near Memphis. Having been in Memphis for Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, I figured I’d go there again and also take a mini vacation while I’m at it. Yes, there will
be pictures.
