Evacuation

On the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina hitting the New Orleans, I spent the day packing and later evacuating. I left before the official evacuation order. Getting stuck in evacuation gridlock did not appeal to me. Fortunately I had no trouble when I left Friday evening. Here are some night shots of the hotel where I’m staying near Memphis. Having been in Memphis for Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, I figured I’d go there again and also take a mini vacation while I’m at it. Yes, there will
be pictures.

Carousel in Motion

Finally here's what I've been building up to, the caroussel. Kids and their parents rode. The only thing missing was caroussel music. That would be my only gripe.

City Park Carousel

The caroussel was restored not long ago. Here are some shots of the building that houses the caroussel. There are hard wood floors and stained glass.

The Train Station and More . . .

One ride I did go on, while I was there, was the train. It meanders around the park's lagoon along City Park Avenue, Carrollton and the approach to the New Orleans Museum of Art. See the video I took on my blog video journal.

Tug Boat

Six Flags in New Orleans had a pirate ship that would swing back and forth going higher and higher. So, when I saw this ride I was curious what it would do. I shot several shots of the ride in motion to help show the way the boat moves.

The Rides

The gardens include an assortment of amusement park rides. Including the caroussel. Here are a few of the rides along the way. There is a pay one price option. I saw a bunch of kids with that arm band.

Carousel Gardens

Left of Storyland are the Caroussel Gardens. As you enter the gate, there is a pool with bronze sculptures. A boy about to go wading is at the front of the pool. A woman with children is at the rear of the pool.

Alice in Wonderland

After passing a gazebo and space rocket I found myself in front of the Alice in Wonderland House. You can see its eyes and mouth. The Cheshire Cat smiled from the rooftop. That's it. So, now you've seen Storyland.
