Again, I walked around this sculpture to show various angles of the squiggle part. It’s smaller than some of the other works. Still it’s nice addition to an otherwise dull median.
Moving west on Veterans from the Clearview Parkway intersection is another sculpture on the median called, “Trace.” It was created by artist Alexander Liberman in 1967. Painted bright orange, the piece pops against the blue sky at the Club Drive intersection.
Naturally I walked around the piece to photograph different angles. It’s the best way to appreciate 3-D works. Walking back to my car I was reminded how busy this intersection gets as cars whizzed by me.
Last year I photographed a sculpture of toucans at the intersection of Clearview Parkway and Veterans Boulevard in Metairie, LA. Since then artist Abby Cantrell’s “Guitar with Jazz Aura” has been added to the median on the other side of Clearview Parkway. Its red color makes it stand out against the green plants near it.
Recently I spotted a Steve Kline metal sculpture on Judge Perez in Chalmette. The title is "The Wind Blew, the Water Surged, the Willpower Emerged." A plaque states that the sculpture is dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. This area of Louisiana flooded during and after the storm.
Outside the council chambers is a memorial garden created by The Compassionate Friends chapter from Chalmette. The organization is supportive to families that have had children die.
On Sunday, November 17th the St. Bernard Art Guild held its Fall Members Art Show at the St. Bernard Government Complex. There was plenty of food and a parade of prizes for the reception that afternoon. Members brought their families along to see that art show.
The West Bank Art Guild held a reception for its Open Art Show on the evening of November 6th. It had been a while since the guild had one. Anyway, members and guests feasted before the awards were given out.
